Asian Games Guangzhou a great success for GAB & IGBS
The 16th Asian Games Guangzhou 2010 are only halfway done, but based on the event's first week it already seems safe to predict it will wind up being considered a tremendous success. A record 14,000 participants from 45 countries and regions are competing across 42 events (also an Asian Games record) and the Opening Ceremony was hailed by no less an authority than International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Jacques Rogge as "absolutely fantastic". International Games Broadcasting Services (IGBS) is very proud of its involvement in the Asian Games on behalf of Guangzhou Asian Games Broadcasting (GAB), led by President Ma Guoli.
IGBS is providing coverage of aquatics, athletics, and cricket and is also responsible for the provision of English commentary and the production of a twice-daily highlights package. While IGBS CEO Francis Tellier visited the Asian Games earlier this week, Ma Guoli honored him by taking him on a tour of the International Broadcast Centre (IBC). Ma Guoli confirmed his satisfaction regarding the impressive achievements of this first week to Francis Tellier and IGBS Project Director Mike Wilmot. The coverage of aquatic events and the highlight package in particular have been very well received by Rights Holders.
IGBS, a 50/50 joint venture between HBS and IMG Media, is participating in its second Asian Games, after having been the Host Broadcaster of the 15th Asian Game Doha 2006 and just months before taking on that same role at the 7th Asian Winter Games Astana-Almaty 2011.
