7th Asian Winter Games Astana-Almaty 2011

The partnership between HBS and IMG Media, which successfully came together as DAGBS for the 15th Asian Games Doha 2006, continued under the new name of International Games Broadcast Services (IGBS) – firstly providing production teams for the 16th Asian Games Guangzhou 2010 and then as host broadcaster of the 7th Asian Winter Games Astana-Almaty 2011.

The week-long event involved 69 disciplines across 11 sports in 10 different venues in and around the Kazakh cities of Astana and Almaty. Almost 1,000 athletes, representing 27 nations, took part while approximately 2,400 media representatives were in attendance.

The broadcast coverage of each event featured between 13 and 32 High Definition 16/9 cameras, which provided stunning pictures of the competition and the attractive Kazakh landscapes. In excess of 200 hours of transmissions were broadcast, with 520 minutes of daily highlights produced.

Furthermore, IGBS overcame a new kind of challenge when it came to constructing the International Broadcast Centre (IBC). The 2,000 m² facility was located in the Almaty Towers complex in downtown Almaty. The building, comprising two 25-floor towers, posed several challenges in the design, construction and operation of an IBC but after 49 days of 24/7 construction work the task was successfully completed.
